Good Hydration

The Juice Doctor believes in a good hydration regime. Our hydration expert Dr Paul Stillman advocates the following regime to ensure good hydration:

  • Start the day with a drink.
  • Never go more than a couple of hours without drinking.
  • Drink little and often.
  • Keep a drink with you at work.
  • If you exert yourself or do sports keep hydrated.
  • Vary flavours to maintain interest.
  • Always have a drink when you eat.
  • Drink before you go to bed.

Benefits of good hydration

  • More alert - feel better and perform better.
  • Greater focus and concentration – A small level of dehydration causes an inability to maintain concentration and produces lethargy with dull headaches. The brain is 75% water and needs to be well hydrated to work efficiently.
  • Softer and younger looking skin - the volume and elasticity of the skin is dependent on its hydration and how frequently the fluid is changed. Good hydration at all times helps its appearance and function.
  • Reduce the risk of heart disease – adequate hydration is important for the function of every organ in the body. It reduces the concentration of the blood, making the heart work more efficiently. It also helps stabilise changes in blood pressure.
  • Appetite and digestion – A glass of water before a meal helps fill the stomach and thus decreases appetite, and can be used as a part of a weight loss programme. Drinks that are high in sugar have been blamed as part of the cause of obesity, particularly in children.
